Countdown

Well, it's almost here...
It's gonna be antoher Christmas soon. Unfortunately, either because of the lack of snow here in Western Washington, or the fact that I've worked at Hallmark for two Christmas seasons, I've not been into the Christmas spirit very much. It's usually my job to decorate the Christmas tree, and I have not even put up all the ornaments on it (it's still servaceable though).
But I don't think it's just me. Except for our across the street neighbors, barely anyone in our neighborhood has put up Christmas lights. Sure, most of the kids in our neighborhood have all grown up and are starting to drift away (I'm still here though...), but there's something to be said about tradition. I remember when our neighborhood looked like the landing strip at SeaTac airport. Candy Cane land was one of the most popular things in our neighborhood (well, except for that one grinch of a family that lived right in the middle of the cul-de-sac that never put any lights up (sorry to this family if they are Jewish or some other religion/nationality that doesn't celebrate Christmas).
Even the malls don't seem that Christmasy anymore. Maybe it's the overzealous PC world we live in. Maybe it's the downturn in the economy since the overindulged 80's. Maybe it's just me becoming old and cynical in my old age (more about that in my next post about the wonders of turning into a 26 year old sad virgin!).

Hopefully someday, when I have an "accident" or purposefully adopt a child, I can go back and relive the glory days of Christmas, but maybe not.

Oh, and by the way, I do know that the true spirit of Christmas has to do with the birth of Jesus and all that jazz, but as I am agnostic, I tend to celebrate the season with rampant commercialism, mixed in with the spirit of giving and good cheer.

Anyways, eventhough I am jaded, I hope that most of you out there have a Merry Christmas.
